funday bun-day!

Hot Satan's Buns!

Trekkie Bun!

more traditional hot crossed buns

sweet, sweet taste of successful Satan's buns!
Its been a slow day today, as tomorrow we are seeing family and having dinner with my baby bro!
I cant wait to get this massive 1kg easter egg to them just to smash it apart! I keep walking past this monstrosity and grinning like a loony! Its looks so comical and huge! Just imagine all that chocolate!
Nothing like a lazy morning catching up on books and favourite magazines which I spotted the recipe for ht cross buns in, and deciding we need a fresh batch ready for tomorrow and having all but two ingredients, I went for it!
I decided as I was about to decorate them, to mix up the decor a little and make some with pentacles on some of them so they became Hot Satan's Buns...perfect for the goths, anti-christ, atheists or those who got a sense of humour! Let's devour evil!

And just for the hubby....a hot trekkie bun for him!

We had a sneaky one still warm from the oven....i'm actually very impressed with myself as I don't do very well with breads in general but these were delish!

I also, finally watched My Neighbour  Totoro for the first time ever! I collect anime and seen pretty much all of studio ghibli's works apart from Totoro...it just didn't appeal to me as everyone was talking about it as if they were connoisseurs of japanese and Asian films when all they have actually seen is just this one. Like someone said to me, "Anyone can buy a Totoro bag for example, and brashly declare themselves fans of all things Japan. When it comes to the bare bones of it all, they actually know so little of the culture, why certain characters and names are in such films or indeed, how the film actually came about in the first place and how it fits into it's culture!"

Needless to say, I very much enjoyed the film, it's not my favourite Ghibli film but I appreciate its charm and recognise where it started out its origin as a child's story and indeed a fairytale.

I wouldn't mind a neighbourhood Tororo though, thank you very much!

a long good friday

Sweet Macaroni It is freezing! The wind in the city is so very cold and something furious enough to blow the sand off beaches and business yards into people's faces! The sea is rough and the people are freezing in the streets, the kind of freezing that sneaks through the many layers of clothes you might be wearing to leave you chilled.
My hubby and I have been busy so today was date day and we went for a cold walk through the city's barbican and working harbour to have Thai food in a little cafe/bar that is tucked away up dainty cobbled streets. Walking through streets full of market stalls, vendors huddled against the wind to somewhere with salsa and Cuban music playing, warm fiery foods and cold refreshing drinks....lovely!
I picked up my usual Simple Things magazine and the new crafty one too...somehting that looks right up my street and for the rest of the day, we curled up in the warm, away from the cold...(apart from a late night walk), sipping beer and ciders, watching lazy movies and enjoying the nice rare day off together.

how much is that cake in the window...?

recently going through my photos i realise i do tend to snap an awful lot of window displays from across the UK, where ever i end up roaming...and after re-looking at the images below......can you blame me? Especially when most of them is food related?!

 how good are these cakes?!
and these! i snapped these wonderful swirly chocolate ones when i was paying for some macaroons...

yum!....and some cream cakes!  i remember that night so well, I was in Bristol which was freezing and under a blanket of snow and the streets were all lit up with fairy lights as it snowed, and it was all so very pretty and i just wanted to dance under the drifting snowflakes and twinkling lights as i hold my pale pink box of treats, tied up in a gold bow.

...Delicious!

A little teenie cupcake shop with a bright candy pink service counter! so very sweet!

quirky, bright home ware and gadgets...

I absolutely adore this shop off covent garden, London....it is full of beautiful cakes, pastries, fancy ornate macaroons filled with fresh fruit, huge bowls of various jewel like salads, sweet and savoury tarts...I really could go on...it was a shop and a window full of wonder!

Lauradee...the famous macaroons in sweet gorgeous packaging

cat on a toilet....as you do!

 *paws at glass*

Just how much of these pictures are food?!
Guess that's why I'm a foodie really!
