back to reality...

easter eggs out already on the 2nd of january?!

creepy neighbourhood cat who likes my windowsill....

Back to life, back to reality as they say!
Getting back into the swing of working for a few hours a day, my insomnia means that rather brilliantly I can head in really early and have the rest of the day to chill and do what i need to do...(recover from a rather fetching bout of illness!)

the early hours means i can actually invest time to myself to set myself up for the day, eat well (porridge and a hot drink at my desk at work) and have a late morning brunch (bacon butty in this case) and feel good for the day ahead.

could it be that this night owl is slowly becoming an early bird?!

hope your first week back to normality is going well!

right now...

  • is ill, ill, ill....with the novovirus that i caught from someone i suspect....Any day now I will start to feel better, i swear i will! I've forgotten what it is like to actually feel well and normal now! If i'm not headachey, I got the fever or stomach pains....grumble, grumble, grumble...
  •  Is excited for London baby yeah! Going to the capital in february for a few days and I'm already got a few things in mind I want to do. Visiting the British musuem is a must! I also want to try lunch or dinner at the pearl restaurant where its interior is designed and covered with pearls. I always wanted to go since it first opened and I was a little girl! It featured recently as one of the challenge in the finals of masterchef 2012 which reminded me of my ambition to visit! I also will be heading straight to Hoxton Street monster supplies shop -  a truely different type of shop! And to pick up a small box of macaroons from Laduree (somehting I always wanted to do!) from either Burlington Arcade where the rich of the rich shop (we once saw Andrew Marr walking by!) or visit harrods or their new shop in covent garden.  I'm also looking to book a fabulous dinner and burlesque show to keep myself in the loop and catch up with the lovely ladies and divine talents! Lush! I cannot wait!
  •  I shall be heading off for a spot of wasailing later on this month! I'm organising for a group of frieends to gather, share cider and bless the local orchards for the year ahead and partake in the ancient tradition that is native to the south west of england!A rare and little known tradition but one I cant wait to see and share here of course!
  •  Is so please that my muma is starting her new job next week! She deserves it!
  • impatiently waiting for a huge order of books to arrive that I bought on-line in the sales! One cannot wait!
  •  Is being organised and is also organising to go back to London in May for a comic-con, something we used to do yearly and decided to resurrect and have a good time with friends on this road-trip!Me thinks a group tour and visit to Shaftesbury Avenue is needed again and maybe I might meet up and see my old friends Derren Brown again (those in the know will know!)! ;P
  • Got so much pictures to upload on this blog! Where do I start?!
  • Is planning ahead for the year and looking at some weekends away staying in lovely towns and in some lovely hotels, boutique accomodations and the likes...
  • Tidying up after the aftermanths of christmas! I been spoilt this year and can't wait to get my crafty flair on (once this bug goes!) and put my newly acquired tailor's dummy to good use!
  •  Is deciding whether to sells some of my collections of vintage fabrics on Etsy so to downsize and save money at the same time?....I shall think some more and see if I can bring myself to part from my hard-earnt stash!
how are you? how is your year looking ahead?

breakfast at princess birdie's!

New Year's eve...I was perfectly happy to stay at home...truth be told, I wasn't feeling great and depression was kicking my little birdy butt...
So to be dragged out, I didnt have long to get ready and so pulled together a little something for the party that actually made me look good enough to welcome in 2013!

proof i can never remain lady-like for very long!

I love this bracelet that says "love like you never been hurt" on the outside and inside of it.
An awesome real leather silver belt that is made in britain I picked up for £3 from TK Maxx...bargin!

This is my first attempt at the beehive of this nature and i have to say, it looked great and I recieved a lot of compliments...guess I need to stop under-estimating my hair styling powers!
My hello kitty piumps making their first outing!

I just shoved the tiny little tiara in as a last minute addition and immdiately channeled the glam of audrey hepburn from "breakfast at tiffanys"!

At the party, I was given a little gift of a tiny hand made totoro that was made and sent from America...thanks to good old Etsy!
I'm mega-chuffed with him!

dress - monsoon (bought at a bargin sale!)
hello kitty pumps - local discout store
tiara - bought at camden market/handmade
belt - TK Maxx
Bracelet - River Island

I don't look too bad for someone who got ready in under an hour with no intention of going out that night, do I?
:P

When free-diver Yang Yun tried to return from the bottom of an arctic pool, she found that her legs had cramped up and she couldn't move.
"I began to choke and sank even lower and I thought that was it for me – I was dead. Until I felt this incredible force under me driving me to the surface."
A Beluga whale named Mila had seen what was happening and sprang into action, guiding Yun safely back to the top of the pool.

new years day dinner!

My absolute favourite resturant in the world so far is Yukisan!
Yukisan in Plymouth was the city's first japanese restuarant and rather than be a standard run of the mill restaurant, it set the bar highly for wonderful, atmospheric scenery with out of this world food made freshly to order.
To go to Yukisan is a treat and one i reserve for special occasions with my hubby, good friends and sometimes for that special "me-time". (i'm not afraid to dine alone, i like my own space, even if this makes me a bore!)

The one dish I want in the world where ever I am, it would have me drooling as soon as you mention it...

Grilled cheese maki
Yes, i grant you it unusual but damn it comes together so beautifully and yummy!
It reminds me of, for some reason of a McDonald's big mac (in a good way), the way the wonderful flavours all melts together in an addictive rainbow of flavours. How could I be so classy to compare such a delicate dish to a brassy take-away burger?! I know!
But several people who have had grilled cheese maki as well have also remarked it made them think too, of a McDonald's Big Mac! So I know I'm not the only one!
grilled cheese maki is the one thing I order everytime I go. No one is allowed to have a piece unless I rarely offer them (after all, birdie doesn't share food!) it would indeed be one of the last things I eat for my last meal! (and a slice of my dad's homemade victoria sponge cake!)

grilled beef Yuzu salad....this too is something I would always order, its so light but packs a punch in such wonderful flavours. the beef is wonderfully grilled and seared, with a tang of charcoal that really kicks up the flavour a notch, colliding with the sweet, tangy dressing sauce. Its a salad you can't afford to miss!

this time I tried a new dish, udon in soup with beef steak.....mmmm.....superb! I'm usually a ramen girl but udon is also a specialty i try from time to time...i really do have an obsession about noodles!

dessert was green tea ice cream. like my hubby says, "It shouldn't work but it really does!"
Sweet with a wonderful bitter taste along side it, it goes down well and really is something else on the menu you should give a go!

A walk home via the barbican was just as wonderful as the meal, the air was cool but not cold and the light was turning into dusk.
I love how the boats in the harbour were all bobbing quietly on the waters and one even had festive lights strung up

Its a nice start to the new year!
